Introduction
The Lahore City

Lahore is regarded as the heart of Pakistan and is the capital city of the Punjab province. Almost immediately after the independence, Lahore was eclipsed by Karachi, which quickly became the biggest and most industrialized city. It was not until the administration of Mian brothers, and the 1990s riots in Karachi that Lahore once again gained its significance as an economic and cultural powerhouse through government reforms. It is now the country’s second-most populous city after Karachi. Lahore is one of Pakistan’s wealthiest cities with an estimated GDP of $127 billion (PPP) as of 2017. Lahore is the historic cultural center of the Punjab region as well as the broader Indian subcontinent, and is one of Pakistan’s most socially liberal, progressive, and cosmopolitan cities. The economy of Lahore has a diversified base spanning from telecommunication, information technology, manufacturing industry, engineering, pharmaceuticals, steel, chemicals and construction material. As a major urban center, the economy of Lahore has relatively prospered. Lahore is hailed as the industrial belt of Pakistan and is home to the largest IT park in Pakistan. It is the country’s second largest economic hub and the commercial capital of Punjab The economy is also enhanced by Lahore’s historic and cultural importance. Being the capital of the largest province in Pakistan brings the city one of the largest development budgets in the country. It is also the most advanced in terms of infrastructure, having extensive and relatively well developed road links to all major cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a rail link with India and the province’s biggest international airport. It also has the most developed communications infrastructure in the province, which includes a wide network of fiber optic telephone and cable lines, GSM mobile network, IPP and WiMax. It has the most developed education and health sectors in Pakistan, making it the economic, Technological, political and educational hub of the Pakistan. As Lahore expands, former residential areas are being turned into commercial centers, and the suburban population is constantly moving outwards. This has resulted in the notable development of the city in all directions and developments towards Raiwind are very special to be noticed. The Sharif Trust and Allied Institutes Sharif Trust was founded by Late Mian Muhammad Sharif, a philanthropist and an industrial conglomerate. He was blessed with an ability to run enterprises efficiently. Along with flouting of industrial concerns, he had immense desire to establish and sponsor welfare-oriented projects for un-affording population. He formed Sharif Trust (1995) contributed by his family members. The Sharif Trust registered under the Societies registration Act XXI of 1860. Main objectives of this trust are to construct, establish and maintain educational institutions and hospitals including medical colleges. So far as the allied institutes concerns, it comprises of Sharif Medical and Dental College, Sharif College of Engineering and Technology, Sharif Educational Complex (KG to 12th grade), Sharif Medical City Hospital. Location The Sharif Institutes are located in the South of the Lahore city, which is the integrating spot of the different cities of Punjab and its Industries. It mainly joins the Lahore city, Raiwind city and Sundar Industrial Area. It is conveniently connected to the most important and the only modern airport of Lahore. It has a very good excess to the city of Lahore through Ring Road. Sundar Industrial Estate is the most important industrial city of Pakistan and is just near the doors of the Sharif institutes. The engineering students have special prospectus in the factories of the industrial city during and after the completion of their undergraduate studies. The Sharif College of Engineering & Technology (SCET) Sharif College of engineering and technology was established in the year 2010. It was developed is located at the most important and integrating place of the city which facilitates the students, residents and the industrialists. This college is offering three bachelor’s degrees with the affiliation of University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. the offered programs are electrical engineering, chemical engineering and computer sciences. Administration The SCET administrator is the administrative head of the Sharif College of Engineering & Technology. He is responsible and oversees the SCET matters by taking direct and complete guidance from the Vice Chancellor of UET, Lahore. The overall management policy guidance is provided by the UET Affiliation Committee. The normal academic procedures and administrative rules of UET Lahore are followed in the SCET undergraduate studies programs. Academic Programs The SCET offers four years under graduate programs in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Computer Science. The engineering programs are accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). All the departments are affiliated with UET Lahore. Strength of the Programs The primary strengths of the programs are summarized as under: The program has a multi-disciplinary composition keeping pace with the modern developments in the field. The average class is observed to have a healthy urban-rural balance in addition to having reasonable class strength, making the personal attention of the teachers available for all students during lectures and labs. The program reflects the true spirit of Pakistan due to gender balance. The department provides significant seed money to all the groups working towards their final year projects. The students have successfully participated in national level competitions (e.g. won the First prize in the RC Car challenge at PIEAS National Olympiad in 2017). The alumni reflect success of the program both in industry and academia. The Department of Electrical Engineering The department was established in 2010 and it offers Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Currently, it has an enrollment of about 100+ students pursuing undergraduate degree in Electrical engineering. The department has fully equipped laboratories for all electrical engineering subjects.
